Neutra Table
Neutra Table was originally designed to add storage to an unused nook in our New York apartment. Although the table was intended for a particular space, it was important to design something that could move with us and integrate seamlessly into our next space. The design must have the ability to disassemble and pack flat, to be moved and/or shipped. For this reason, the design takes a minimal approach with clean lines and nods to historic proportions.
Another intentional design decision was to minimize waste. All pieces fit within a standard 5’ x 5’ sheet of Baltic Birch plywood. Custom ‘puzzle piece’ joinery was used to maintain the integrity of the supporting legs, as well as provide subtle detail that reveals the fabrication process. A similar detail, highlighting the assembly process, is the inlay surrounding the brass hardware. The inlay is Sapele Mahogany, which provides a nice contrast to both the birch and brass. The fabrication process and materiality are central focuses in this collaborative design partnership.
